The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the concept behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it have to comply with special requirements. In other words, all dot MOBI websites have to be built to be opened without problems by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” created by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the dot MOBI Registry. These involve how a web page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The restrictions have provoked some concerns due to the fact that the TLD is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to access a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be built in such a way as to be opened by most web browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Considering that the .MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can grab a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours.
