Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the data exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the data which customers submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so forth. Any info they input in any box on the Internet site will be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Usually, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, which means the overall cost for your web presence will be higher. While this may not be an issue for a larger business, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online shop which doesn't generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. That is the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

A shared IP can be used for any SSL certificate, irrespective if you purchase it from our company or from a different vendor and regardless of the shared hosting service that you have on our end. If you obtain the SSL through us, you will discover this option on the certificate order page in your hosting CP where you can also take full advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option which we offer. If the latter is chosen in the SSL order wizard, our system shall install and set up everything for you using the specifically configured server shared IP address, so once you acquire and approve the SSL, there shall not be anything else to do on your end. You could save the funds that you will otherwise need to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL will function in the same exact way, so any information which the site visitors submit shall be encoded. The sole difference is that if you enter the shared IP instead of your domain within a web browser, the website will not display.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

The shared IP option is available with all semi-dedicated servers and the setup takes just two clicks within the hosting Control Panel irrespective if you get an SSL through our enterprise or via a third-party vendor. There won't be any difference in terms of how the certificate functions or encrypts the info that your site visitors submit, so your Internet site will be secure without having to spend the extra money for a dedicated IP address. The only thing which will be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your Internet site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is quite unlikely that anyone shall ever try to access your internet site in this way as opposed to inputting your domain. Additionally we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs obtained via our company and if you select it and you opt to use a shared IP instead of a dedicated one, our system will set everything up the moment the SSL is approved and issued without any action on your end.
